The Organization for Community Development (OCODE) is a grassroots national non-governmental organization that works to improve the lives of less privileged Tanzanians. It was established in 1999 and registered in 2003 under the Society Ordinance Act of 1954. It complied with the NGO Act of 2002 in March 2011. OCODE’s focus is on supporting and facilitating communities to realize the quality of basic education for children, community livelihood, and youth empowerment.

OCODE is looking for a very committed and highly motivated graduate Tanzanian to fill the position of Communications officer.

Job Title: Communication Officer
Job Location: Dar es Salaam
Employment Status: Full Time
Employment: Full-time-on contract basis.
Contract Duration One-year renewable on a performance basis
Reports to: Resource Mobilization and Communications Manager
Manages Others: No
Job Description: The Communications Officer will support the Organization’s communications strategies by creating engaging written and visual content. Key responsibilities include capturing high-quality photographs during events, managing social media channels, and assisting in the development of newsletters and reports. The role involves collaborating with various teams, engaging with stakeholders, and conducting research to enhance communication efforts. Additionally, the officer will ensure adherence to ethical standards in photography and communications, provide training for staff and community members, and assist with administrative tasks.
Roles & Responsibilities:

Roles and Responsibilities:

·      Content Creation:

o      Assist in developing written and visual content for newsletters, reports, websites, and social media platforms.

o      Create compelling photo stories and essays that highlight the organization’s projects and community impact.

·      Photography:

o      Capture high-quality images during events, workshops, and community programs to document the organization’s activities.

o      Edit and prepare photographs for use in promotional materials and online platforms.

·      Social Media Management:

o      Support the management of the Organization’s social media channels by creating engaging posts and visual content.

o      Monitor social media engagement and assist in responding to inquiries or comments.

·      Event Support:

o      Provide photography and communications support for events, ensuring key moments are documented and shared.

o      Collaborate with event organizers to align communication strategies with event goals.

·      Collaboration:

o      Work closely with the communications team to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.

o      Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for enhancing communication initiatives.

·      Training and Capacity Building:

o      Support training initiatives by providing basic photography or communications workshops for staff and community members.

·      Compliance and Ethics:

o      Ensure adherence to ethical standards in photography and communications, including obtaining informed consent from subjects.

o      Stay informed about best practices in communications and photography for the organization.

·      Administrative Support:

o      Assist with administrative tasks related to communications projects, such as scheduling meetings and maintaining project timelines.

 

OTHER

·       Write monthly and annual activity reports and use these as the basis for monthly and annual engagements/appraisals with a supervisor.

·       Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time.

·       Responsible for pictures storage and documentation through organization means of savings.

 

Education, Qualifications & Skills Qualifications and Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Photography, or a related field.

·       1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or photography, preferably in the non-profit sector.

·       Strong photography skills with a portfolio showcasing documentary and event photography.

·       Proficiency in photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom) and social media platforms.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       Cultural sensitivity and understanding of social issues relevant to the Organization’s mission.
